Atascadero Creek is a small family-owned winery located near the town of Graton, in Sonoma County, California. It is owned and operated by winemaker Bob Appleby, along with his wife Rosemary. Our winery is named for Atascadero Creek, a major tributary of the Russian River, which flows behind our home and winery. We produce many small lots of single vineyard red wines: Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot, and Sangiovese, with most of our lots being 50 to 100 cases. We also make some white wines, principally Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and rosé. The white wines are made in stainless steel tanks without oak ageing. Our red grapes are de-stemmed, usually without crushing, and fermented in small, 1 ton, open-top fermenters. When dry, the wines are pressed out with a small, wooden stave, hand- operated basket press. Our red wines are aged in French oak barrels for 10 to 20 months, and hand-bottled unfiltered and unfined. Our single-vineyard approach allows each vineyard to express its own individual flavors and textures, making each wine distinctive and unique. Although we ship to the entire United States, our production is so small that most of our wines are sold in Sonoma County.
